... und wir feiern mit ihr und wir feiern sie!
Zu ihrem 250. Geburtstag widmen wir ihr mit verschiedenen Kursen einen Themenschwerpunkt.
Wer war sie?
Jane Austen* (geb. 16. Dezember 1775 in Steventon, Basingstoke and Deane; † 18. Juli 1817 in Winchester) war eine britische Schriftstellerin aus der Zeit der Regency, deren Hauptwerke "Stolz und Vorurteil" und "Emma" zu den Klassikern der englischen Literatur gehören.
Schon ihre Zeitgenossen waren von ihren Werken hin- und hergerissen irgendwo zwischen "Skandal", "trivial" und "genial".
So oder so: die Schriftstellerin hat unvergleichliche Romane hinterlassen und so ein faszinierendes Bild ihrer Epoche bis heute erhalten.
Die Themen aus ihren Romanen sind immer noch und immer wieder gegenwärtig.
Zahlreiche Motivverfilmungen wie etwa von "Stolz und Vorurteil" haben dafür gesorgt, aber auch die Filme wie "Bridget Jones" oder "Bridgerton" u. a. haben ihre Geschichten zum Vorbild.

Janina Wedig (Jg. 1982) hat Amerikanische und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft studiert und einen Master-Abschluss an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität in Düsseldorf erworben, wo sie auch 6 Jahre Studierende in diesen Fächern unterrichtet hat.

The Book Club has been meeting regularly since August 2025. We get together every 5 to 6 weeks to read and discuss selected works of English literature. Since we read each text in its original form, you should have a command of C1 English. Since this is a one-day only course, please make sure that you have read the book before the start of the course so that you can participate in the discussion. Further material will be provided by your teacher.
